About Us

Everything you need to know about VTRC, and probably some you don't

About

Founded in 2007, the Virginia Tech Running Club has since grown to be the largest sport club on campus with over 150 dues-paying members! We welcome all runners, whether you're just trying to stay in shape or trying to set a new PR.

Practices

We meet for practice everyday in front of War Memorial gym (see the practice times on the front page), and typically have groups running anywhere from 3-10 miles each day, but you're welcome to run any distance you'd like.

Races

We offer a cross country season in the fall semester, with the 6k/8k distances for girls and guys, and a track season in the spring semester. We typically compete in 4-5 meets in both seasons, including Nationals (which anyone can go to).

Frequently Asked Questions

If your question isn't answered below or anywhere else on the website, please feel free to reach out to any of our officers listed on our officer page. We'll be happy to help out!

What if I'm Out of Shape?

We welcome runners of all skill levels, from beginner or not. There's no tryouts, no cuts, no minimum mileage, etc. If you want to run, we'd love to have you!

Is Anything Mandatory?

No! All practices, races, socials, etc, are completely optional, but we'd love to see you at them!

Do you have Sprinters or Field Events?

Yes, we offer a unique sprinter training plan if you'd like to focus completely on shorter distances! Sprinters compete in the spring track season and meet for conditioning in the fall semester. In addition to sprinting, we also offer jumping (long, triple, or high) and throwing (shotput and discus). If you'd like to learn more, please feel free to email either of our sprint captains!

How Much are Dues?

If you just want to show up and run with us, dues are $20! If you want to race during the semester, dues are $60! Racing dues include hotel costs for meets like Nationals and allow you to race in any of the meets we go to during the semester. Both prices include a semester shirt.

If you're not sure whether or not you want to join yet, don't worry! Dues aren't "due" until the 2nd-3rd week of official practices - plenty of time to figure out if running club is right for you!
